Hi and welcome to the Maine Youth Wilderness Leadership Program 2009 Photo Blog- a long name yes but perhaps that can be worked out later. On Sunday, August 16, this program was completed for the first time ever. It was an 8 day long backpacking-hiking-swimming adventure in which 10 applicants were given the opportunity to hike Baxter State Park and enjoy its magnificence while at the same time being exposed to potential careers, opportunities and organizations that help keep Baxter State Park as beautiful as it is.

Each of the eight days held something new in it, starting with a Leave No Trace and Digital Photography presentation as well as a day hike of North Traveler- and ending with an amazing hike to the summit of Baxter Peak on Mt. Katahdin. Throughout the week all participants got to know themselves, each other, and their leaders more and more. Of course, many pictures were taken along the trail as well as some High Definition video. As each of these elements trickle in from the participants now at home throughout Maine, they will be posted here. Please enjoy these fantastic views of Baxter State Park and keep an eye and ear open for your opportunity next year.

Alex, this is a wonderful website. We at Friends of Baxter State Park are so pleased to be able to hear/see from you about your experience in the the Park during august of 2009. Could you please contact me? I’d like to be able to use some of your photos in a brochure about the program. And, I am delighted to learn that you’ll be at the Teens to Trails conference and join the MYWLP workshop. Hope to hear from you soon. Barbara Bentley
